Marine Corps Marathon, October 29, 2006

The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) is staged in Washington, D.C. beginning and finishing at the world-famous Marine Corps War Memorial. “The Peoples Marathon” hosts runners and walkers from all over the world. Young and old, first time marathon runners and veterans alike compete in this long distance race for their own goals and to benefit others, but all involved are dedicated and committed to making things better for everyone a step at a time.

Run for the Children® will also participate in the MCM’s new 10K race to be held in conjunction with the annual 26.2-mile event. The new 10K will utilize the same start and finish line as the MCM and replace the previous MCM 8K. Runners of all ages are invited to participate in the 6.2-mile race. The 10K course winds its way from the Arlington Memorial Bridge start to the Pentagon parking lot, through the sights and sounds of Crystal City, returning to cross the legendary finish line at the Marine Corps War Memorial.

  • The race is open to both runners and walkers age 14 and over who are able to complete the 26.2-mile course within a 7-hour time limit.
  • Each participant will be required to raise a minimum contribution of $1000 ($1200 for those using hotel accommodations) by race day (10/29/06).
  • Each participant will be responsible for any balance of the minimum required still outstanding on race day.
