Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA), a nonprofit a nonprofit organization that is committed to creating safe, healthy and drug-free communities globally has recently shared this important advocacy alert.

The U.S. House and Senate Agriculture Committees are asking for feedback related to the 2023 Farm Bill. This feedback is due by March 31. This is your opportunity to eliminate the loophole that allows intoxicating hemp products such as Delta-8, Delta-10 and Delta-0 THC to be sold.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
Please fill out the linked forms with the sample message below for both the House and Senate Agriculture committees asking for feedback on this important issue. Please note that these forms ask for your organization. If you do not feel comfortable providing this information, you can enter “Self.”

The House forms asks “Which of the 2018 Farm Bill titles do you or your organization have the most interest in? (select all that apply)” Please select “Title X, Horticulture.”

According to the 2018 Farm Bill: “Hemp is defined as the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of that plant, including the seeds thereof and all derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, isomers, acids, salts, and salts of isomers, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 THC concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.”

We need Congress to clarify the definition of hemp. As an unintended consequence of the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, we are now facing an explosion and proliferation of psychoactive cannabinoid products marketed as “legal hemp” that are widely available to children. These products are dangerous because of contamination, from high levels of toxins. Synthetic marijuana sales are now a $2 billion industry. These sales need to end.

It is important to eliminate the loophole that allows intoxicating hemp products such as Delta-8, Delta-0 and Delta-10 to be sold to children in gas stations, smoke shops, bodegas and online.

SAMPLE MESSAGE

Congress needs to make it a high priority in the 2023 Farm Bill to close the loophole that resulted in the proliferation of unregulated, highly intoxicating cannabinoid products. There is an urgent need to clarify the definition of hemp to eliminate the unintended consequence of the 2018 Farm Bill that legalized the manufacturing and sales of highly intoxicating hemp products that are dangerous, contaminated from high levels of toxins, totally unregulated, marketed as “legal hemp” to kids, with no age limits, and sold in places like gas stations, smoke shops, bodegas and online. These cannabinoids include Delta-8 THC, THC-P, ThCjd, THC-H, THC -0, HHC and Delta-10 THC, are highly psychoactive, cause poisonings and must be banned in the 2023 Farm Bill. Synthetic marijuana sales are now a $2 billion industry. These sales need to end. Thank you for working to close this loophole and thereby protecting the health and safety of our kids and our community!
