Wed 11/16, 1:30 – 2:30 CT

The U.S. Surgeon General issued a rare and clarion Advisory on youth mental health. The bottom line? It’s on all of us—whether we work in health care systems, schools, media companies, community organizations, government agencies— to “step up for our children and families.” Sara Polley, MD, and Desirae Vasquez, MHS, MBA, examine the implications across the continuum, from health promotion to risk prevention to early intervention to behavioral health treatment. Help Children Develop An Attitude of Gratitude This Thanksgiving Season

Gratitude isn’t just for adults. Pint-sized, it helps children balance out negative emotions and stress, find more energy, and increase overall contentment. This state actually reduces incessant complaining, helps boost the brain’s ability to learn, and improves a child’s ability to make better decisions. NACoA’s infographic provides some great ideas on how caring adults can help nurture an attitude of gratitude.

To learn more, read “Gratitude: Not Just For Thanksgiving Anymore. How to foster everyday gratitude in children living with parental addiction.”

Children of Addiction Awareness Week will be held February 12 -18, 2023! Be on the lookout for the social media toolkit and other resources as you begin to plan for this international awareness campaign spotlighting the impact of parental addiction and celebrating kids & teens around the globe who have found recovery. Thanks to caring adults, children begin to understand that the addiction is not their fault, helping them to continue to love their Moms and Dads while they separate them from their hatred for the disease. Join us to help raise awareness, educate our communities, and make a difference that can last a lifetime.
