Nearly 19 million – or 1 in 4 children — in the United States live with at least one parent who has a substance use disorder. These children face heightened risks of emotional distress, academic challenges, and lifelong health consequences. Brick by Brick – Building Hope is an annual fundraising event for communities to come together to build hope and stomp out the impact of addiction for children affected by substance use disorders in their families.
Since the launch of the 2025 NACoA Brick By Brick: Building Hope LEGO Challenge campaign on July 20, NACoA has raised over $45,000 to support children impacted by parental substance use disorders. We are overwhelmed with gratitude.
This incredible momentum is thanks to the heart and creativity of Keith Harmon, a father from Pennsylvania, who envisioned the LEGO Challenge and took it one step further with a 48-hour live-streamed LEGO build-a-thon in his Lego community. His dedication has brought national attention to children growing up in families affected by substance use and inspired so many to get involved.
