The 2026 COA Week Speaker Series provides valuable insight and proven strategies to help community partners come together to provide hope and healing to children impacted by parental substance use and help them live healthier lives.

Behind the Call: Substance Use, Child Trauma, and Law Enforcement Response​

Law enforcement officers regularly respond to calls involving substance use where children are present—often without clear guidance on how those moments affect a child’s well-being. This webinar will examine the intersection of substance use, child trauma, and law enforcement response. The session will highlight what children experience during substance-related calls, how trauma can present in children’s behavior, and why officer responses matter beyond the immediate incident. Presenters will share practical, field-relevant considerations for interacting with children and caregivers while maintaining safety and professionalism.

Crossing Generations, Building Resilience: Global Lessons from NACoA’s Family-Centered Approach​

This session spotlights how to support children affected by parental substance use through scalable, culturally responsive, family-centered interventions used around the world that build resilience, interrupt intergenerational harm, and promote equity and accessibility across diverse communities. This session features NACoA and its international Allies: AV Baliga Memorial Hospital, Addiction Suisse, Alcohol Action Ireland, NACoA Deutschland, NACoA UK, NACoA Slovenija.

Creating Strong Children's Programs to Support Kids & Teens Impacted by SUDs

With 1 in 4 children living in a household with at least one parent struggling with the disease of addiction, it is imperative that communities begin to plan to develop children's programs to promote hope and healing. This webinar will explore the process and provide recommendations for the development of strong, effective, sustainable programs.

This presentation explores the complex and deeply rooted challenges surrounding substance use within Native American communities. Participants will gain an understanding of the historical, cultural, and systemic factors that contribute to substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions among Native populations. Drawing on current research, lived experiences, and tribal perspectives, this session aims to foster empathy, challenge stereotypes, and advocate for policy and clinical approaches that center Indigenous voices. Attendees will leave with practical insights for supporting Native individuals in healing-centered, culturally grounded ways..

In this special COA Awareness Week webinar, Claire shares her personal story of healing, how she learned to become her own role model, and why prioritizing emotional and physical wellness is essential—especially for those who have grown up in families affected by alcohol use. Together, we’ll explore practical tools for self-understanding, strategies to build inner strength, and approaches to wellness that are preventative, compassionate, and empowering. Claire will also introduce her upcoming book Your Wellbeing Matters and her mental health app, iamme, designed to help individuals reconnect with themselves and build healthier patterns in everyday life.
