CADCA Invites Statements Regarding Marijuana Rescheduling
Today – July 22, 2024 – is the last day to respond to CADCA’s invitation for people to voice their opinion about plans to move marijuana from Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) to Schedule III of the CSA. This does not mean marijuana is legalized, but if implemented, moving marijuana to Schedule III would be a boon to the marijuana industry and further accelerate the proliferation of high-potency marijuana products in communities across the country.

National Deflection Week – July 14th – 20th
Last week was an important week of advocacy about deflection and diversion. NACoA proudly supports this tremendous work happening in communities to save lives, promote recovery, save taxpayer dollars, reduce drug misuse, and reduce drug-related crime. Children are reassured and kept safe throughout the response to domestic disturbances when families receive appropriate referrals to supportive programs and parents are provided valuable educational materials for long-term support. The work of deflection is done at the intersection of public safety and public health in a community setting, as opposed to diversion, which is initiated in a justice setting. Deflection and diversion work in tandem and both are needed, but they are fundamentally different in their grounding in community (deflection) or in the justice system (diversion). A week devoted to raising awareness about these meaningful integrations helps to improve outcomes for children and families while fostering stronger, more resilient communities.
