Treatment Centers

Support the Whole Family

Most treatment centers in the U.S. provide excellent, compassionate care to the individual in treatment. However, for many reasons—such as staff limitations, insurance restrictions, or lack of dedicated space—many programs are unable to offer direct support to the children and family members of those receiving care. Yet we know that family healing is a critical part of long-term recovery success.

That’s where NACoA can help.

NACoA stands ready to support your treatment center in expanding or enhancing your family services—both inpatient and outpatient—with customized, evidence-based resources specifically designed to include children and teens. Our goal is to help you break the intergenerational cycle of substance use disorders and strengthen families for lasting recovery.

Celebrating Families! — A Curriculum for Whole Family Recovery

At the heart of our resources is Celebrating Families!, an evidence-based, trauma-informed curriculum proven to engage every member of the family in the healing process. Designed for families impacted by substance use, mental health challenges, or domestic violence, Celebrating Families! helps restore communication, rebuild trust, and strengthen protective factors for children.

Why Include Children?

Children growing up in families impacted by substance use often experience confusion, fear, and isolation. Many carry these burdens in silence—especially if the family doesn’t talk openly or honestly about what’s happening. Without support, these children are at significantly higher risk of developing their own substance use disorders or mental health challenges.

NACoA provides treatment centers with the tools and guidance to:

Professional Consulting and Program Development

In addition to our existing resources, NACoA offers professional consulting to help your center:

  • Design or augment your family and children’s programming.
  • Guest speakers for your family programs or alumni events
  • Align new resources with your treatment center’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Develop prevention, education, and care plans for all family members.
  • Implement family sessions for alumni programming, keeping families engaged post-treatment.

Partnerships That Support Families at Home

NACoA has partnered with Sesame Street in Communities to create engaging content that helps children understand what to expect when a loved one returns home after treatment. The Parental Addiction Initiative offers supportive resources and helpful tips for re-establishing a sense of stability and routine, providing concrete steps for creating new family structures rooted in communication, safety, and care.
